Pun & Games Youth Improv Program

An after-school program where kids learn to think on their feet, find their voice, and have fun doing it. Launching January 2027

Lexy's Playground is a nonprofit organization creating opportunities for young people to explore comedy, improvisation, creativity, and self-expression in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Our flagship youth program, Pun & Games, is an eight-week after-school improvisation program designed to help kids build confidence, communication skills, creativity, collaboration, and the ability to think on their feet—all while having a lot of fun.

WHAT IS PUN & GAMES?

Pun & Games introduces young people to the fundamentals of improvisation through games, exercises, scene work, and collaborative activities.

Our curriculum has been developed and tested through workshops in the Eugene community and is designed to meet students where they are, whether they're natural performers or someone who is simply looking for a place to make friends, build confidence, and try something new.

Over eight weeks, students will explore:

Confidence and building supportive relationships
Active listening and communication
The art of "Yes, and..."
Emotional expression and character development
Creativity and imagination
Taking positive risks and overcoming fear of failure
Collaboration and teamwork
Storytelling and scene work
Finding the fun in mistakes
Performance skills

The program concludes with an opportunity for students to put their skills into practice and celebrate what they've learned with family and friends.

MORE THAN JUST IMPROV

While improvisation is at the heart of Pun & Games, our goal is bigger than teaching kids how to perform.

We want to help young people develop skills they can use everywhere—from the classroom to friendships to future careers.

Students will practice:

Communication

Learning to listen, respond, express themselves, and communicate effectively with others.

Confidence

Learning that it's okay to take a risk, make a mistake, and try again.

Collaboration

Learning how to build on someone else's idea instead of shutting it down.

Creativity

Learning to use imagination, think outside the box, and solve problems creatively.

Connection

Creating a supportive environment where students can be themselves, meet new people, and feel like they belong.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Pun & Games is designed for youth ages 8–17.

We anticipate offering separate age-based groups, such as:

Ages 8–10
Ages 11–13
Ages 14–17

Final age groups and schedules will be determined based on community interest and enrollment.

AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM

We anticipate programming Monday–Wednesday from approximately 3:00–6:00 PM, with students attending one scheduled afternoon each week.

Each afternoon will include:

Arrival and check-in
A nutritious meal
Improv instruction and activities
Games and creative exercises
Time to build friendships and community

Our goal is to maintain approximately a 1 instructor to 5 students ratio so that every student receives meaningful attention and support.

A PLACE TO CREATE

Pun & Games will operate at the future home of Lexy's Comedy Club, where students will have access to a dedicated performing arts space designed for creativity, learning, and performance.

Construction is currently underway, with programming anticipated to begin after winter break in January 2027.

ACCESS FOR EVERY FAMILY

We believe financial circumstances should never prevent a child from participating.

Program tuition is anticipated to be approximately $400 for the eight-week session, with scholarships available for families who qualify.

We are actively working to build community partnerships and secure donations specifically to help provide scholarships and keep the program accessible to families throughout our community.
